TheRammo Posted March 2, 2011 Share Posted March 2, 2011 Depending on the bike, it is sometimes worth the hassle! I am doing something similar with a Buell. Just google motorcycle exporters and you'll find loads of companies will do it. Pickfords, for example, will crate the bike and ship it for around £1,500. You will need to get import approval before shipping (google it again - the paperwork is fairly simple) and get the bike prepped properly (all fluids drained) but there are plenty of specialists. Total cost is around £2,000 but if the bike is a classic or one-off it can be worth it. If the bike is something that is easily replaceable, just sell it and start again over there! The motorcycle went in a separate containing and arrived safe and sound. He's pleased he shipped it. He uses it to get to work everyday so it saves us money on public transport. I replied to a thread a few days ago in the "Dilemmas" folder about the costs involved once you get to Aus - might be worth looking that up as it will provide more food for thought. I have an 08 R1 probably valued at £6500 if I'm lucky ! Looking at the links you posted, a similar model would cost eqiv. £7500-£8500 A$ Up-to-date shipping UK-OZ costing £1300-£1500. So I question whether it's worth the paperwork ? Another angle: 2010 R1 UK= £13,500 - £14,000 or 2010 R1 OZ £10,500 - £11,500 Answering my own question I would be selling and buying new with a lot less paperwork ! It also means you could be riding witihn a week of arriving and not having to wait till your container/bike arrives. Get yourself a Warrior and join an elite group (only about 250 left in Australia) :cool: Used YAMAHA XV1700 Road Warrior Motorcycles For Sale - bikesales.com.au There are so many very nice bikes out there it gets so tempting. :confused: I love the New Yamaha Super Tenere & the KTM 990 Adventue series, and then I see some of the new Trumpy's and fall in love all over again. Guest DutchRooster Posted January 7, 2012 Share Posted January 7, 2012 I'm relocating to Sydney in 6 weeks time for a few years (or more...) and really want to import my KTM but am put off by all the paperwork... It's a 2009 250 EXC 2 stroke, a pure off road bike but it needs to be road registered in order to ride off road legally (unless you only ride private property). How did your import go? The company is moving me, 40ft container and they are picking up the bill, but they won't help with registering and all the red tape that goes with it. Any advice gladly accepted.
